Myopia Control & Children’s Exams

Children’s vision changes quickly and when myopia (nearsightedness) progresses, it can mean stronger prescriptions over time and a higher lifetime risk of certain eye health issues. With lots of experience working with children, we make exams comfortable, age-appropriate, and thorough while focusing on both clear vision today and long-term eye health.

Children’s Eye Exam

We assess more than “can they see the board.” A children’s eye exam may include:

  • Visual acuity and prescription assessment

  • Evaluation of eye teaming, focusing, and tracking (important for reading and school)

  • Age-appropriate eye health screening

  • Discussion of symptoms like headaches, squinting, eye strain, or trouble with near work

Myopia Control

If your child is myopic—or at higher risk due to family history—we’ll discuss options to help slow progression based on their age, prescription, lifestyle, and exam findings. We also establish baseline measurements and monitor changes over time to ensure the plan is working.

Myopia Control Options:

Soft contact lens myopia control (for appropriate candidates)

Myopia control spectacles designed to help reduce progression while providing clear vision

Low-dose atropine therapy, prescribed and monitored as part of a structured treatment plan

A clear plan for parents

You’ll leave with a straightforward explanation of the findings, recommended next steps, and a follow-up schedule tailored to your child’s needs.
